A/Prof Stephen Ting is a Consultant Haematologist and Clinician Scientist with a special interest in Blood Stem Cell biology and its associated diseases. He is the current Director of Clinical Haematology and Clinical Trials at Eastern Health, Box Hill Hospital. He consults primarily at Box Hill Hospital and also, privately with the Eastern Blood Group and The Blood Unit at Cabrini Hospital, Brighton.
A/Prof Ting manages all blood cancers such as leukemia, myelodysplasia, myeloma, lymphoma, and myeloproliferative diseases. He also treats blood clotting and bleeding disorders and other benign diseases related to anemia, leucopenia and thrombocytopenia. A/Prof Ting has a special interest in autoimmune aplastic anemia where he co-leads a clinical trial investigating severe aplastic anemia. He is a member of Haematology Society of Australia & New Zealand, Australian Leukemia and Lymphoma Group and American Society of Hematology.
A/Prof Ting obtained his basic medicine degree with honors from Monash University in 1987, specialist Haematology FRACP and FRCPA degrees and a PhD in Developmental Biology from University of Melbourne. He trained as an academic post-doctoral scientist in Hospital Cochin, Paris, France and the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer, Montreal, Canada, and returned to lead his own research groups in Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne and Australian Centre for Blood Diseases, Alfred Health, Melbourne. He has received numerous awards, fellowships, competitive basic science and clinical research grants and published in the highest ranking general science and haematology focused journals including, Science, Nature Medicine, Cell, Leukemia & Lymphoma, Blood and Blood Cancer Journal.
